Nissan Frontier Parts Interchange: Which Xterra, Pathfinder, Titan and Equator Parts Actually Fit

The Frontier never existed alone. For most of its life Nissan built it alongside SUVs on the same bones, and for four years Suzuki sold it under its own badge. Those trucks wore many of the same part numbers — and their listings sell for less, because far fewer people are looking at them.

That is the whole opportunity here. A used part is priced by how many people are searching for it, not by what it is. A console tray pulled from a Pathfinder gets listed as a Pathfinder part; if it is the same tray your Frontier uses, you have just found the same component in a quieter market. This is the reference for knowing when that is true.

The platform map

The Equator is the special case: it is not a cousin, it is the same truck with different badges. Suzuki sold a rebadged D40 Frontier from 2009 to 2012, and the two are interchangeable in nearly every respect that matters to a parts buyer.

The Titan is the opposite case, and it trips people up because both are Nissan pickups. It is a bigger truck on its own frame with its own body and drivetrain. Assume nothing structural crosses over. What does cross over is Nissan’s common-parts bin — the small stuff shared across the whole range in a given era.

One honest caveat on the D40: internationally, the same generation was sold as the Navara, with engines (including diesels) and configurations never offered here. A “D40” listing from overseas is not automatically a match for a North American truck. Match the market as well as the generation.

The rule that actually governs interchange

Generation tells you where to look. The part number tells you whether it fits.

A Nissan part number is two blocks — a five-digit function number, then a design code:

The function number is not vehicle-specific. 96965 means the same kind of console cup-holder insert whether it is in a Frontier, an Xterra or a Pathfinder. The design code is what changes between siblings. So there are three cases:

1. Both blocks match → it is literally the same part. It fits.
2. Function number matches, design code differs → same kind of part, built for the sibling. Often interchangeable, sometimes not — this is the case you verify with photos before you buy.
3. Function number differs → different part. Vehicle name similarity means nothing here.

Interchange by part class

Read the “verify by number” entries literally. On brakes especially, the fact that two trucks use the same caliper design does not mean they use the same rotor — the Pathfinder is a heavier vehicle and Nissan sized parts accordingly. Worked examples, from real listings

The strongest evidence that interchange is real is that sellers advertise it. Every part below is in stock right now, and each one states its own cross-fitment on the listing — including, in two cases, the sibling part numbers.

Case 2 in one listing. The console cup holder insert is sold as fitting the 2005–2019 Frontier under 96965-ZP00C and the 2005–2012 Pathfinder and 2005–2015 Xterra under 96965-EA002. Same function number, two design codes, one physical part. That is the pattern in the table above, printed on a box.

The Equator is the Frontier. In-channel window visors are sold in a single part fitting the 2005–2021 Frontier crew cab and the 2009–2012 Suzuki Equator crew cab. Nobody manufactures one set for two vehicles unless the door frames are the same. If you are shopping used exterior trim, search the Equator name too — it is a far quieter listing pool.

D22 ↔ WD22 Xterra. The windshield washer nozzle set lists as 1998–2004 Frontier and 2000–2004 Xterra, No. 289313S500 — one number, both vehicles, exactly the years the platform overlapped. The older generation’s interchange is narrower simply because the Xterra arrived two years into the Frontier’s run.

Three-vehicle cabin parts. The upper dash center bezel storage box fits the 2005–2017 Frontier, 2005–2012 Pathfinder and 2005–2013 Xterra. The center console organizer covers the 2005–2021 Frontier and 2005–2012 Pathfinder; the armrest cover covers the 2005–2021 Frontier and 2005–2015 Xterra. Note how each one ends where its sibling ended production — that is the interchange window closing, not the part changing.

The common-parts bin. The keyless entry remote (KBRASTU15 / CWTWB1U733) is listed for the Frontier, Xterra, Titan, Armada, Pathfinder, Quest, Sentra, Murano, Versa and several Infinitis. The short antenna mast spans Titan XD, Frontier and Xterra across nearly thirty model years. This is the one place the Titan genuinely shares with you — small, standardized components, not platform parts.

The split points that break interchange

Interchange is bounded by dates, and these are the boundaries that matter on a Frontier:

• 2004 → 2005. D22 to D40. A hard wall. Almost nothing crosses it.
• MY2009, D40 front end. Nissan restyled the front of the D40 mid-generation, so front-end parts split into early and late versions within one generation. This catches people constantly — details in the body panels guide.
• 2012. The R51 Pathfinder ends. After that model year, Pathfinder listings are a different, unibody vehicle and are not a source for anything.
• 2015. The Xterra ends. The N50 is your best sibling for 2005–2015 parts and simply does not exist afterwards.
• 2021 → 2022. D40 to D41. The frame was updated rather than replaced, and the Utili-Track bed channel system carried across — which is why factory bed cleats fit trucks on both sides. Everything you can see, plus the engine and transmission (new 3.8-liter V6, 9-speed automatic, replacing the 4.0-liter/5-speed that ran unchanged since 2005), did not carry across. This is why nearly every accessory and drivetrain-parts listing on the market splits at exactly this year.

How to shop the siblings on eBay Motors

The routine, in order:

1. Identify the part number on your truck — off the part itself where it is molded or stamped, otherwise from a VIN-based catalog.
2. Search the bare number, then with the hyphen, then the five-digit function block plus a model name. Sellers type numbers inconsistently and often bury them in the title.
3. Search the sibling vehicles by name for the same part: Xterra for 2005–2015, Pathfinder for 2005–2012, Equator for 2009–2012, and Xterra again for the D22 era. Same part, quieter listings.
4. Compare photos against your old part before bidding — mounting tabs and their positions, connector shape and pin count, and the overall casting or molding shape. A photo of the back of the part is worth more than any fitment chart.
5. Ask the seller for the number if the listing does not show one. A salvage seller who cannot produce it is guessing, and you are the one taking the risk.

The bottom line

Interchange on a Frontier is generous inside the family and almost non-existent outside it. The 2005–2021 truck can shop the Xterra, the R51 Pathfinder and the Suzuki Equator; the 1998–2004 truck can shop the WD22 Xterra; the 2022-and-later truck has no sibling and mostly cannot shop its own predecessor. The Titan is not a source for anything but small shared hardware.
